Every spray application starts with the same problem: converting what's on the product label into the right amount of concentrate for the actual water volume in your tank. Labels express rates per acre or per 1,000 sq ft; tanks hold gallons. With multiple products in a single tank, a calibrated sprayer output rate, and a partial last-tank fill, the math compounds fast. One miscalculation means too much active ingredient, a phytotoxicity risk, or product wasted across the whole lawn.
Growth regulators add a separate timing challenge. Trinexapac-ethyl — the active ingredient in products like Primo Maxx and T-Nex — suppresses seedhead push and vertical growth by inhibiting gibberellic acid synthesis in the plant. Its effect lasts until growing degree days accumulate past the suppression window. That window is weather-driven, not calendar-driven: a cool week after application extends the interval; a heat wave shortens it. University research established the standard reapplication model based on accumulated heat units (GDD₀C), so the right reapplication date depends on what the thermometer has done since the last application — not what week it is.
Apply too late and the turf rebounds with a visible flush before the next application covers it. Apply too early and you're spending product before the previous application has finished working. The reapplication window is narrow and easy to miss without tracking.
